Larimar - 3 Piece Jewelry Set - Copper Cuff, Pendant, and Earrings

Larimar - 3 Piece Jewelry Set - Copper Cuff, Pendant, and Earrings

My First 3 piece matching set.

This set will always be very special to me. When I started making the cuff, which was the first piece I made for the set, I was actually not even planning on making it a full set. It wasn't until after I finished the cuff that I thought, perhaps I could make a matching pendant. Then, my mom actually mentioned that making matching earrings would be a good idea.

I was nervous at first to be able to live up to those expectations of making matching sets. Normally everything I make is so organic, and not planned, that actually trying to plan something, made it more scary! Normally you would think the opposite right? But for me, the ability to not have that expectation of making something in particular, means I have more free reign on how it will turn out.

That's technically what I did though. When I made the cuff, I had no idea that's how it would turn out. I start making something, and I just let it grow from that. And once I finished the cuff, I could use that as the bases for the pendant and earrings.

The stones are Larimar. Larimar, also called "Stefilia's Stone", is a rare blue variety of the silicate mineral pectolite found only in the Dominican Republic, in the Caribbean. Larimar is a healing stone. is said to enlighten and heal in a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual way. It stimulates the heart, throat, third eye and crown chakras facilitating inner wisdom and outer manifestation. It represents peace and clarity, radiating healing and love energy

I personally just LOVE the beauty of the stone. It's a beautiful sky blue with feathery white streaks. It truly reminds me of the Caribbean waters.

The Cuff.

This cuff and Pendant are made up of 100% bare copper sheet. They are completely hand forged in my home studio. I cut the sheet, anneal, fold and hammer and repeat until the desired look is achieved. I then use wire wrapping techniques to secure the stone. It is cold connected. I use no glue or soldering. I finished it up by oxidizing them and polishing it with steel wool to give it an antique look, which shows the details of the texture and wraps, while keeping high points light.

The Pendant.

The pendant was made very similarly to the cuff. With one fold off center to give space for a matching stone and wrap for the bracelet. The width is the same as the width of the cuff as well.

The Earrings.

The earrings are very similar to my normal wire wrapping style. The hardest part was that the stones size do make it a bit more difficult to work with, but the finished product is so elegant, and just the perfect size for a pair of earrings.

I originally planned on using copper sheet for the earrings as well. I even went as far as making 2 matching copper sheets, similar to the pendant. But at that point I thought about how I didn't want it TOO matchy matchy. You know what I mean? You want pieces to complement each other. So, I decided to make the earrings only with the wire, but utilizing the same swirls and beads as the cuff and pendant. I ended up very happy with the results!

The ear hooks are antiqued copper colored niobium, which is a naturally hypoallergenic metal. So it's perfect for anyone, including those with metal allergies.
